BLACK FASHION DESIGNERS EXHIBIT at The Museum at FIT NYC
I was pleasantly surprised that while visiting New York City (my hometown) this December I came upon a wonderful exhibit at The Museum at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology). The exhibit is Black Fashion Designers and runs from December 6, 2016 through May 16, 2017, so you still have a chance to go by and enjoy this display of beautiful fashion.
“There have been past exhibitions about individual black fashion designers, such as Stephen Burrows and Patrick Kelly, but this exhibition explores the experiences of several generations of African and African American fashion designers from the 1950s to the present” FIT.
Besides designs by Stephen Burrows and Patrick Kelly some of the other designers featured include, Tracy Reese, Austin Zuur, Cross Colours and CD Green who was commissioned to create Tina Turner’s wardrobe for her “Wildest Dreams Tour” (pictured here). The designer used beautiful Swarovski crystals so that she would stand out on stage!
The exhibition is free to the public and a wonderful stop during your visit to the city or if you’re a native drop by! So, grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, come in from the cold and spend a great time viewing this beautiful fashion event.
The exhibition was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT, the President’s Diversity Council, and the New York Council on the Arts with support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
